We went to a 'secret' mass at our church at 2:00. The kids were adorable and I love that Father John calls all of the children up during the mass to talk to them about the meaning of Christmas. Of course Mikey had his hand raised the entire time and I was cringing-- but thankfully, Father John knew it would probably not be appropriate to call on the ginger boy in the back! Mikey would not go away without being heard though- when all of the children were dismissed, there he was, tugging at Father John's robes to tell him that SANTA WAS COMING TONIGHT!!!! Oh, my dear boy. After mass, we went to a neighbors house for Christmas Eve dinner (Janet and Jerry Gaglione) and the kids experienced their first game of secret santa. They loved it and Kaitlyn walked away with a tin of pepperment bark (which she is calling her 'treasure') and Mikey a dinosaur fossil kit. Then it was straight home to open their gifts to each other. Of course- Mikey had already given Kaitlyn her gifts as soon as he came home from the store because he can't keep a secret or surprise. Then again, he is only 4! He wrapped them anyway and had them under the tree for Kate and she loved opening the toy mixer and iron. Mikey had also already opened his gift from Kaitlyn during our 'Friendsmas' celebration but I had made him put it back under the tree to wait for this evening. I'm a horrible mom as he had to look at 6 extra large action figures just standing under the tree waiting of him to play with them- including Batman!!! What a trooper though and he was so excited to finally open the box. Then off to bed (with their new toys of course) to try to fall asleep while waiting for Santa! Can't wait to see your faces in the morning my babies!

Polar Express!
The elves brought us tickets to ride the Polar Express and even new jammies and slippers to wear! To say the kids were excited would be a bit of an understatement. We sang carols and watched Christmas movies on our 3 hour drive to the mountains and then took a little walk around Bryson City before we boarded the train! We had such fun seats and the kids got goody bags to dive into while we started the ride. Then the wait staff brought us delicious mugs of hot cocoa topped with the most yummy whipped cream- along with the fun 'hot chocolate' dance!! Then the waiters read the book 'The Polar Express' to us and then the car went dark- the kids were in awe as we travelled to the North Pole where we saw Santa's house and even the hobo sitting on top of a train! The next thing we knew- Santa had boarded the train and he came around to everyone and gave us our own bells! It was such a fun night. Mikey kept repeating over and over on the way home 'was that the most fun night??!' I'm so glad we were able to do this with the kids.
Leave it to Mom to ruin a perfectly wonderful family photo!!
And for 20 minutes STRAIGHT on the way home, Kaitlyn sang 'Santa Claus is Coming to Town':
'You'd better watch out, you'd better not cry
you'd better not pout, I'm telling you why
Santa Clause is coming to town
He sees you when you're sleeping,
He knows when you're awake,
He knows if you've been bad or good,
So be good for goodness sake Oh--
REPEAT (about 348 times)!!'

We were finally able to make our annual Christmas trip to Daniel Stowe Botanical Gardens to see all of the festive lights and..... Santa!! And coincidentally, Joe, Pat, Kevin and Isabelle were there too! I love, love, love this holiday tradition.
